DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology deals with the diagnosis and non-surgical management
of Oro- facial diseases and the oral manifestations of systemic disorders, as well as with the maxillofacial
imaging. Theory lectures and practical postings are conducted for the III and IV BDS students. Post
graduation and PhD with the intake capacity of 3 student per year started since 2009 and 2015 resp.
Oral radiology is well equipped with the conventional as well as advanced imaging facilities utilized for
the Under-graduate, Post Graduate as well as PhD students.
Tobacco Cessation Centre has been started in the department as per the DCI guidelines. Value added course on tobacco de-addiction training for interns is conducted every year in collaboration with the faculty of Life First foundation. Patients who develop addiction to tobacco or related products are systematically counseled in this unit by trained staff members of the department and kept under regular follow up for their habit cessation.
Innovative teaching learning methods are regularly conducted for third year, Final year and PG by staff. Along with this a separate case based group discussions also initiated for Post-Graduate students on Cone Beam Computed tomography & Computed Tomography images to upgrade their knowledge.

- Received MUHS LTRG on research project titled – “Evaluation of Efficacy of Soothoral Gel Containing Combination of Psidium guajava Extract, Cucurbita pepo Oil in Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis” in May 2025, worth Rs. 1,00,000.

- Presented a paper at the FDI World Dental Congress held from 12th to 15th September 2024 on “Fractal Dimension Analysis at Implant Site on CBCT” at Istanbul, Turkey.
- Received copyright in the year 2024 for the research project titled – “Correlation of Midpalatal Suture Ossification and Thickness of Hard and Soft Tissues of Midpalatal Suture Regions With Age and Gender: A Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) Study”.
- Served as a Faculty in Research Ethics and Good Clinical Practices (GCP) organized by the Indian Society for Clinical Research (ISCR) in collaboration with Forum for Ethics Review Committees in India (FERCI) on 8th and 9th October 2024.

The department of Oral Medicine and Radiology is always at the forefront in undertaking extensive research in newer fields. Studies are being carried out on CBCT, Radio-videography, OPG and Lateral Cephalograms by the departmental postgraduate students. Innovative drug trials are being conducted with long term follow-ups and positive results.
Also, a long term research project involving MRI and Occlusal splints in Temporo-mandibular joint disorder patients is in progress. Various questionnaire studies are also carried out successfully and published. On the whole, the entire Department is very keen on conducting research activities which are guided and always encouraged by the Head of the department.
